About the Event

We are a people-based sector and much of our success as an educator rides on our ability to build positive, professional and trusted relationships with the people in our learning community. Developing our communication skills is imperative to build confidence to engage with people in our roles. This session will help you reflect on your current approach & communication style.

This session will be fun and we will laugh about those awkward moments when you don’t know what else to say… Come along and upskill and build a toolkit of strategies.

Recommended for: This session would be great for anyone working in the Early Childhood Sector or Outside School Hours sector, in particular people who are new to the sector or who are focused on building their communication skills.

This session will cover:

  • Sisu - a Finnish word that means to develop resilience, perseverance and persistence even when it seems unachievable.
  • Body language – What our body is telling people during our interactions with them.
  • Professionalism – How close is too close? We will talk about what it looks like to be a professional in this sector and how you can maintain those clear lines.
  • Give and receive feedback effectively – being able to provide people with feedback and have discussions that will support collaboration and growth.
  • Appropriate Language – we will talk about the appropriate language we should use when talking to children and how to move away from ‘pet names’ and praise.
  • Having discussions with colleagues – being able to communicate well with your colleagues is incredibly important. This session will give you some extra tools to use.
